Looking at dieting and fast weight loss: How sensible are fast diets – Part 2

Fast weight loss diets lead the body into thinking that the dieter is starving. The body then switches onto emergency alert and the metabolism slows down so that calories are not burnt off too quickly. This really ruins the whole idea of undergoing a fast weight loss diet in-order to loose weight! Most dieters want their metabolism to speed up, not slow down.

You will be able to loose some weight in this way. Anyone who severely restricts their calorie intake will loose weight. When you come off of the diet you will soon pile the weight back on. Simply replenishing lost water will result in some weight gain and your body will be wanting to store up fat in-case of another diet coming along which will be registered as a famine.

During the fast diet you will miss out on essential nutrients and healthy fatty acids. Your vitamin intake will probably be low, as will your energy as a result of this. You may feel dehydrated and tired and suffer headaches and insomnia.

The only really sensible and long lasting way to loose weight is to adopt a healthy attitude towards food. Eating slightly smaller portion sizes of food with a good nutritional value on a daily basis will lead towards weight loss. This coupled with exercise will set you on the road to a lifelong trimmer figure.
